Final

This is my final project. Because it was supposed to be like an ad in a magazine, I wanted to have it catch your eye, but to be simple enough. I thought it would be cool to have all of the different locations so that it would show different aspects of Nebraska.

Lit'l Tyk's Place

So far. I feel like I have accomplished the foundation and some new skills of Photoshopping. I think I will continue to learn new things about the Adobe things through all of the book projects and other assignments we receive in class. I hope the last few weeks of the semester, that the class remains fun and we can do another fun project. I feel like I am still challenged with some of the tools in photoshop, but mostly in illustrator. And for that final project, I would like to do another collage, because after doing the first one I know that I can make it even better.

Logo Design

The label I chose that I did not like was the one for Chex cereal. This label was just to boring. It is not something that would catch my eye in the grocery store. I'm not sure what it is about this logo, its just not one that I liked very much.

The label that I chose that I really liked was the label for Sour Skittles. I love the bright colors on the package, it really catches your eye and makes you want to buy the skittles.

Movie Poster

The movie I chose for my project was orignally called the Hot Chick. I added in me, Brittany, Molly, McKenzie, and Josh Tomjack is the boy in the center. I changed the name of it to the Not Chick, because I needed to give it a different title. This was a fun project, and hopefuly next time I do something fun like this, I have more time so that it can look better! But overall it was something I would like to do again!

Passion

This is a photo that I found on Flickr. To start off, I made a duplicate layer. Then next I changed the shadow/higlight and the brightness and contrast. After that, I desaturated the photo. Then I used the eraser tool and made the color of the dress and ballet shoes. The last thing I did was add the text. I used the same color from the dress for the text. Then I embossed and made the opacity less so that the word wasn't too sharp.

Word Photos

This photo Is of Misty-May Treanor. I found it on Flickr. First of all what I did was make a background copy. Then I when to image adjustments, and chose desaturate. The next thing I did was chose the eraser tool and I went over the volleyball, and the swimsuit, so that the colors would really pop. Then I used the text tool and chose the Earwig Factory text. Then I roated the text so it would sort of be diagonal. Then I used the colors from the volleyball to spell out the word.

Professional Interview

I interviewed Jane Nelson who works at Special T's in Lynch. Here were her answers: 1. What are some basic design principals? The main reason for graphic design is to relay a message/statement. You must relay that message appealingly to your consumer or client. There are four fundamental principals to always live by when you are designing something. CRAP Contrast - Avoid elements (fonts, colors, size, shape...) on a page that are similar. Contrast is what draws people into your work. Repetition - Repeat some aspect of your design throughout the entire piece. You want to make sure that you communicate the purpose of your design. Alignment - Everything should have some visual connection with another object on the page. It will help unify and organize the page. Proximity - Items relating to each other should be grouped together. This to will help organize and better clarify your message. 2. What are some tips you have from the field of digital design?Always keep up on the new technology. Programs, computers, printers... are changing everyday and if you can’t keep up, then you are in the dark. Don’t be afraid to take risks. Something that may seem off the wall may turn out to be an award winning piece. One huge tip is to take the time to learn shortcuts! Using shortcuts and speed keys will save both you and your client money. 3. And what is some advice you would give to a novice designer? Going into a career like Graphic Arts was one of the smartest things I have ever done. You can do so much with the training. Web design, billboard design, corporate identity... the list goes on. This field is expanding all the time. Graphic design is definitely the new age field of art. Try out a few different areas of graphic design before finding your specialty. (Logos, Website, Business Cards, Advertisements, Brochures, Billboards, Product Packaging, Posters, Book Design, Magazine Layout, Newspaper Layout, Greeting Cards). In college, we got to do billboards, computer animation, product marketing/packaging and even a photography class. We did a little of everything. It was amazing.

Five Photos

I chose this picture, because I love how the photographer had the right timing, and how it is focused on such a tiny thing as a drop of water.
This is one of those pictures that makes you feel as if you are actually there, and it is breathtaking.
In this picture the water is beautiful and the wave is amazing.
This picture makes me think of the country, and waking up early in the morning to watch the sunrise.
I love the way this picture was taken, its at the right moment, and a cool angle.

Podcasts on Photoshop

The Podcast that I found and decided to download was called Adobe Photoshop Quicktips by Justin Seeley. I chose this podcast, because it was the highest in popularity, so I decided that I should check it out. Most of the videos will last between about 4-6 minutes, and you just go on weekly to check each one out. You also can e-mail the creator of the podcast, to have him show the quicktips on one of the episodes. I found the podcast easy to follow in the step-by-step process that it gives you.

Apple Student Gallery

I enjoyed the Apple Student Gallery, because it was very easy to use. You could go in and type what sort of picture you wanted to see and it would come up with several photos for you to choose from. I do think that the age should be younger so that students that are taking classes similar to the digital design classes that we are in, can publish their works of art on the website as well. Overall I think it was a good website.

What I learned from Atomic Learning

The three things that I learned from the Atomic Learning videos were:
1. I learned how to duplicate layers. By right clicking on your layer. Then a dialog box comes up and you can make a name for your layer.
2. The next thing I learned was how to soften edges. By using the feather tool.
3. The final thing I learned from the videos was how to use the sponge tool.

My 1st Blog Post

Basically the only experience that I have with Digital Design would be taking pictures with friends on digital cameras, and a little bit of PicNik on Facebook. I joined this class because I wanted to expand my ability with editing photos. I think with these skills I will be able to make a lot of cool projects and hopefully be able to design something for a business.
